Description
The NexION 300X ICP-MS is the first single instrument to combine the simplicity and convenience of a collision cell with the exceptional detection limits of a true reaction cell. With to its patented Universal Cell Technology (UCT), analysts can select the most suitable technique for any sample or application. Users are free from restrictions on gas choice, mass range, or operating methods. Transitioning between modes is effortless, with no compromises. Signal stability is maintained hour after hour by the innovative Triple Cone Interface and Quadrupole Ion Deflector. This unique ion path efficiently removes un-ionised material before it reaches the Universal Cell. this keeps the instrument clean, reducing drift, and eliminating the need for cell cleanings.

Standard Mode:
Unlike other systems, the NexION 300 actively vents its cell to remove residual gases. This design allows the instrument to operate in true Standard mode, with the cell turned off, avoiding sensitivity loss. Instruments from other manufacturers, unable to quickly vent their cells, must rely on KED even in Standard mode to address potential interferences and are restricted to using a single gas. When properly executed, Standard mode offers sensitivity comparable to Collision or Reaction mode for elements that do not require interference correction.
Collision Mode:
The NexION 300’s Collision mode provides an excellent balance of performance and simplicity, making it ideal for semi-quantitative analyses, environmental sample monitoring, and testing unknown samples. By utilizing a simple non-reactive gas, Collision mode eliminates many interferences, achieving better detection limits than Standard mode for certain elements.
Reaction Mode:
Widely acknowledged as the technique delivering the best detection limits, even for challenging elements and matrices, the NexION 300’s Reaction mode effectively eliminates all interferences with minimal or no loss of analyte sensitivity. Unlike other instruments that claim to offer a Reaction mode, the NexION employs a scanning quadrupole to remove specific interferences and reaction products within the Universal Cell. This design supports the use of any reactive gas and ensures that only the element of interest reaches the analyzing quadrupole.
