At Richmond Scientific, we take pride in ensuring that equipment is handled by our own trusted staff through every stage of the process: from assessment and testing, to packing, to a speedy delivery.

Our Packing Procedure

We use Stratocell expanded foam which has outstanding protective qualities. In addition we use expanding foam bags for cushioning. These are all enclosed in waterproof polythene wrap that provides a barrier against any moisture or airborne dust in transit.

Equipment is secured on packing stillages within the external case and all equipment is positioned on a cushion of expanded foam that prevents any damage during transit.

All equipment is checked and tested before dispatch. We are skilled in packing and crating equipment that will withstand the toughest journeys, including overland transport in remote regions such as Sub Saharan Africa and South America.

Case study 1: Australian University needed it quick

Customers as far afield as Australia appreciate that equipment from Richmond will be tested and well packed before it is dispatched 12,000 miles to the other side of the world.

This particular University was in desperate need of a specific Leica Microtome and could not afford a new instrument. Hence, a phone call and a payment were made and the packing case was airborne within four days.

Case study 2: USA Customer likes the certainty of Richmond

Customers in The United States appreciate that Richmond hold stock for sale, rather than just broker others’ instruments. One particular customer found that equipment purchased from Richmond is up to the mark each and every time.

To date we have received 9 orders from this company with revenues exceeding £150,000.

Case study 3: African Experience

A loyal customer based in one of the largest Life science labs in Nigeria regularly purchases equipment from us. In his own words, his reasoning for this loyalty is as follows: "When I was completing my PhD, I used to buy equipment from a variety of suppliers in the UK. Richmond were recommended to me by my research group leader Professor Wilson and since then, I continue to use them and have found them to be the best all round supplier."

Case study 4: Ice Road

Environmental study in polar regions has expanded over the past few decades – as we become more concerned about our impact on the environment, governments have started to locate teams of scientists in polar regions in an effort to improve understanding of humankind’s effect in polar regions. Richmond Scientific have been involved in dispatching instruments to these desolate places.

Naturally, the scientists were concerned about the freezing temperatures which could damage the equipment, and also the high risk of in-transit damage on the ice roads. Our team’s job was to cushion the sensitive instruments from the bumpy ride, and to ensure effective modification and insulation of the shipping crates.

The equipment arrived undamaged and is now helping to collate data that will have a significant impact on how we live our lives in the future.
