Pipettes are used to transfer set volumes of liquid ranging from 0.1 µL to 10 mL. The type of pipette you require is dependent on the type of liquid you are measuring. Viscous liquids can be more accurately measured with a positive displacement pipette. These pipettes are unique because they have disposable pistons and direct contact with the sample. Aqueous liquids are more suited to an air displacement pipette which maintains a partial vacuum between the sample and the piston in order to draw the liquid up into the pipette.
